I have a Zmodo DVR system and I hate using the software that came with it. It's buggy, and I can only fast forward by 16. DVR Viewer Software (Free). ![]() ![]() I understand that Windows 10 will deprecate Windows Media Center. Microsoft's FAQ mentions providing DVD playback software, but that's not really an issue for me. Will Windows 10 have a solution to replace the DVR / PVR capability of Windows Media Center? I currently use an HD HomeRun tuner to record television programs on my hard drive in conjunction with WMC. WMC is the only PC-based DVR program that I know of that will support both broadcast and cable (copy-protected) recordings. While I can find a replacement for the 'Media Center' aspects of media center (like Kobo), the PVR/DVR software is much harder to replace. Is Microsoft sunsetting this as well? A real shame MS has decided to retire WMC, especially after folks like us paid for the upgrade in Win8/8.1 to keep the functionality. And as long as the pricing is reasonable, I frankly wouldn't mind paying for WMC (or something similar) again to keep it up-to-date with Windows 10. I understand that software upgrades require work, and work isn't free. The problem is that there isn't a solution at all other than WMC that can handle all of the 'copy once' and other copy-protected broadcasts. I suspect there has to be Operating System support in order to make sure that's the case. So Microsoft, as much as I'd love to see WMC automatically upgraded and provided with Windows 10, the next best alternative is selling it as an add-on, with the cost of the software going to making sure it stays supported (even if lacks new features). WMC is the only game in town right now. If nobody else steps up to build a Windows PVR with full copy-protection support, then Windows 10 takes away functionality that we have zero means of restoring. And that's the biggest issue here--not that they're retiring a program, but rather that they're retiring a program that has no viable replacement available. Couldn't agree with the sentiments in this thread more. I have been spending much time scouring for software to replace my Media Center so that I may upgrade to Windows 10 but to no avail. There are software that do parts of what Media Center does (like Media Portal previously mentioned) but nothing that does the whole thing. I feel really bad for those setup for CableCARD. Media Center is the only game in town other than one Tivo solution. At least for myself its only OTA broadcasts that I playback using Xbox 360. Media Center handles the DRM aspects of recording TV that is where the buck stops for the open source replacement candidates.:(:(:( 3 sad smiley faces for MS regarding killing Media Center!!!
